Important industry news and updates
BRCGS Issue 9 is here!
The new BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 9 was on 1 August 2022.
Certification against Issue 9 will commence from 1 February 2023.
GLOBALG.A.P. IFA V6 is here!
The GLOBALG.A.P. IFA v6 is here and ready for implementation. The transition period for the obligatory use of IFA v6 for fruit and vegetables, flowers and ornamentals, hops, and aquaculture was extended to 1 January 2024.
As soon as IFA V6 becomes obligatory, all three versions, i.e. V5.2, V5.3 and V5.4 GFS, will cease their operation and validity.
Regulations Governing General Hygiene Requirements for Food Premises, the Transport of Food and Related Matters (R638)
Regulations R962 was replaced on 22 June 2018 by Regulations R638 and came into effect on 22 June 2019.
This regulation applies to ALL food handling premises, including beverages. If you own a food handling premises you must be in possession of a Certificate of Acceptability (COA) and comply with the new regulations’ requirements.
Establishment of Statutory Measure and Determination of Levies on Dried Vine Fruit (R1299)
The statutory measure was published on 11 December 2020 and came into operation on the day of publication and will lapse after 4 years.
Regulations Relating to Coffee, Chicory and Related Products Intended for Sale in the Republic of South Africa (R1154)
The regulations were published on 30 October 2020 and will come into operation 12 months after publication.
Regulations Relating to Tea and Related Products Intended for Sale in the Republic of South Africa (R1153)
The new regulations were published on 30 October 2020 and will come into operation 12 months after publication.
Compulsory Specification for Processed Meat Products (VC 9100)
The new regulations came into effect in October 2019.
These new regulations are intended to enable inspection of meat processing plants.
The body that will be tasked with inspections is The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications ( NRCS).
