Carte Blanche went on a journey to investigate the manganese dust effect on the public. Along the journey, Mthokozisi Nkosi from ASC shared his expertise and concerns regarding the storage and transportation of manganese. Mthokozisi Nkosi, a Food Safety expert, emphasized the significant public health risks posed by manganese dust, particularly when not managed appropriately during storage and transportation.
Mthokozisi recommended that the manganese handling operation should implement dust suppression measures to prevent the manganese dust from being released into the air. Mthokozisi also suggested manganese should be handled in a closed system, ensuring the manganese dust is controlled from affecting the environment.
Video evidence presented during the interview further substantiated the discussion. The footage showed air filters from a food processing plant clogged with manganese dust.
